On the Hot Seat: Sen. Russell Kokubun & Sen. Jill Tokuda

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Welcome to The Hot Seat. Today, it’s two for one — joining us live for the next hour, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. are senators Russell Kokubun and Jill Tokuda. (The senators agreed to sit in for Senate President Colleen Hanabusa, who had a personal emergency)

Sen. Kokubun has been leading Hawaii’s sustainability efforts and is chairman of the Senate’s Commerce, Consumer Protection and Affordable Housing Committee. Sen. Tokuda is chairwoman of the newly created Committee on Agriculture and Hawaiian Affairs.

Both senators will join us live for the next hour and will take your questions on issues facing the state legislature, from renewable energy to healthcare to affordable housing and more.

Just a reminder of the Hot Seat ground rules: Please keep your questions concise and on point to allow us to get to as many folks as possible. And let’s keep it civil — no personal attacks please.

Could Barack Obama actually become the next president of the United States? If the recent Iowa caucuses are any indication, it just might happen. Obama last week beat out his other Democratic contenders, including Hillary Clinton, to win the Iowa caucuses.

Joining us fresh off Wednesday (Jan.9) for a post-New Hampshire take on his candidate of choice will be Brian Schatz, spokesman for Obama’s Hawaii campaign. Brian will take your questions live from noon to 1 p.m.

To join us live, watch for the new posting that will go up at noon Wednesday and post your questions there. If you can’t make the live session you can e-mail your questions in advance to me at jmbelding@honoluluadvertiser.com and I’ll try to post as many of them as I can between the live questions.

See you Wednesday, for a conversation on Obama’s campaign, on the Hot Seat.
