COMING WEDNESDAY: UH ATHLETIC DIRECTOR JIM DONOVAN

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

No doubt, there have been many changes in UH Manoa’s athletics department. From the departure of June Jones to the subsequent push to beef up campus sports facilities to the dustup over who traveled on the Sugar Bowl express, so to speak. And one of the biggest changes in recent weeks is the selection of the university’s new athletic director.

I’m sure there’s no shortage of questions out there surrounding UH athletics. So get ready:  UH Athletic Director Jim Donovan will answer your questions live, here on the Hot Seat Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. It’s just an hour-long session, so you won’t want to miss it.

To join the conversation, watch for the new posting that will go up at noon Wednesday and post your questions there during the hour. If you can’t make the session live, you can e-mail your questions to me in advance at jmbelding@honoluluadvertiser.comand I’ll try to get in as many as I can in between the live posts, but it’s best to post your  questions yourself because this will be a busy hour.

See you Wednesday at noon, with UH’s Jim Donovan.

NOW ON THE HOT SEAT: Mark Dunkerley, president and CEO of Hawaiian Airlines

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Welcome to The Hot Seat! Joining us live today from noon to 1 p.m. will be Mark Dunkerley, president and CEO of Hawaiian Airlines.

Mark will take your questions on the airline industry live for the next hour. It’s a timely topic, as the state and the tourism industry grapple with the departure of Aloha Airlines and ATA from the air passenger service landscape in the islands. Add to that the reductions in flights by other major carriers and soaring fuel prices and the economic outlook appears troubling at best.

Just a reminder of our Hot Seat ground rules: Please keep your questions concise and on point so that we can get to as many questions as possible; and keep it civil, no personal attacks please.

Ready? Let’s chat.

NOW ON THE HOT SEAT: Clayton Frank, director of the state’s Department of Public Safety

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Welcome to The Hot Seat. Joining us live today (June 18) from noon to 1 p.m. will be Clayton Frank, the state’s director of the Department of Public Safety.

One of Clayton’s major responsibilities is handling the state prison system. That’s a tall order. Overcrowded prisons prompted the state to ship inmates to Mainland facilities, away from their families and their support base. Packed prisons and the high number inmates there due to drug-related offenses has led to a push to find more programs that deal with rehabilitation and drug treatment programs.
